Technology shouldn't demand all our attention, just some, and only when necessary. Calm technology lets users focus on being human, with tech amplifying rather than detracting from humanness. This session covers designing tech that works with our attention, exploring notifications, sensory info compression, and minimizing cognitive overhead. Amber Case, an expert on human-tech interaction, authored "Calm Technology" and holds fellowships at MIT and Harvard. She co-founded Geoloqi, founded The Calm Tech Institute, and is Research Director at the Metagovernance Project.
