About the Talk

How do spatial experiences and digital media carry meaning through their making, and how do we design them that resonate beyond their material form? This talk explores intersecting domains of meaning-making: cultural transmission, physical materiality, and embodied interaction—where the act of interaction itself becomes inseparable from bespoke meaning. Drawing on ideas of technological inheritance, network theory, and the Arts & Crafts ethos Jussi Ängeslevä examines how to craft meaningful balanced communication at the intersection of art, technology, and design.

Through cases spanning large scale art installations, museum exhibitions, and research projects, he reveals the collaborative dynamics and stakeholder tensions inherent in interdisciplinary practice, navigating between understanding technology, its aesthetics, and employing it in practical and robust spatial experiences.

The talk closes with provocations on emerging computational tools: how to employ them enactively, as instruments for embodied thinking, rather than surrendering our agency to automation.
